Santa Fe Railroad crew change at Seligman, Arizona

In 1886, Tom Bullock directed the construction of a railroad line from a connection with the transcontinental route to Prescott. The little junction community took the name of Prescott Junction. However, with the completion of the line from Ash Fork to Prescott in 1896, this railroad line was abandoned and the town was renamed for Jesse Seligman, who was famous for financing railroad ventures. Extra 5643 West stops at Seligman for a crew change on November 1, 1977.

The original mainline from Ash Fork to Seligman was completed in 1882. The Santa Fe added a second mainline from Ash Fork to Seligman in 1913. This line bridged over the original mainline at milepost 411, ten miles west of Ash Fork. Trains between Belen and this bridge operated left hand and right hand from there to the other fly-over at Frost, CA (south of Victorville). Crookton Road from exit 139 to Seligman was US 66 from 1926 to 1965. Seligman is at milepost 429 at an elevation of 5,284 feet.
