SP Railroad freight train symbol LAWJZ at Cuesta, CA

Train LAWJZ (Extra 6801 West) is coming out of Tunnel 6 at Cuesta on November 15, 1977. Note that one of the lights is out on the oscillating unit on the nose. This train used to be symbol GGM (Golden Gate Manifest). Cuesta is the highest point on the Coast Route at a little over 1,300 feet.

Just after cresting the hill the tracks go under US 101. The tracks then descend at 1.9 percent to Santa Margarita. CTC was installed between San Luis Obispo and Santa Margarita in August 1942. Disk 52
