Eastbound Canadian Passenger Train at Semlin, British Columbia

The sun glints off the eastbound Canadian as it approaches Semlin on May 22, 1980. The scenery from Kamloops down to Ashcroft looks more like a desert than the lush green forests that you would expect in the damp Pacific Northwest. Semlin is at milepost 38 on Canadian Pacific's Thompson Subdivision. The CP converted from semaphore signals to GRS color light signals between Kamloops and Spences Bridge on eight miles of double track and 64 miles of single track in 1948. Disk 3
