Extra 5680 West (train 308) passes Extra 3260 West (train 708) at Amboy on November 2, 1977. Train 708 is the train out of Phoenix. In the background you can see Bolo hill. That is the Ship Mountains way off in the distance. |

On May 29, 1987 I caught train 708 again at Amboy. The train has engines 5328, 3036, 2821, 5959. Notice that the engineers of both westbound trains are trying to gently get the slack out of their trains after coming off Bolo Hill and get their trains up to the speed limit in preparation for the climb up to Ash Hill.
