Soledad City was officially renamed Ravenna on June 12, 1868. The road on the right was the original Soledad Canyon highway built in 1920. It crossed the railroad twice within the span of about a mile. So in the 1940s the highway department cut a new road higher up on the hill to avoid these crossings. You can see a part of the new road just above the covered hoppers.
