For me Southern Pacific's Sunset Route heading east out of Los Angeles really starts at Colton. Colton is at milepost 539. This was measured from Oakland via the original route through Bakersfield and Los Angeles. The Palmdale Colton Cut-off saved 41.5 miles. Disk 53
