SP Railroad SD7 switches Taylor Yard near Los Angeles, CA

On November 9, 1977 I was in the Los Angeles area to visit my uncle, actually my step-mother's step-brother, and had a little time before sunset to take some pictures. An SD7 switches Taylor Yard.

Extra 5007 West is moving up the east side of the Los Angeles River through East Bank Jct. toward Taylor Yard. This was the only time I caught an SP DD35 in good weather. The SP only had three DD35s while the UP had 25 B units plus 15 A units. The Southern Pacific DD35s were built in 1964 and retired in 1978.

A crud (SW1500 2575) moves through Taylor Jct. Just beyond the switch engine is Shops Yard. This used to be the site of the SP Railroad roundhouse and shops for steam engines assigned to Los Angeles. Disk 53
