UP Railroad train CN on Sullivan's Curve in Cajon Pass

UP Railroad train CN on Sullivan's Curve in Cajon Pass

UP engine 74 leads a manifest train past Sullivan's Curve on May 27, 1978. I believe this is a second section of train CN (Colton Fruit). In the heyday of Pacific Fruit Express, this train handled perishables out of the LA Basin for reclassification at North Platte. As the orange groves were flattened to make room for subdivisions, this train began handling more and more general freight. This train became the LAB (Los Angeles Bailey Yard) in the Spring of 1984 and the LANP in early 1986.

Extra 5686 East storms up the short stretch of straight track between Cajon and Sullivan's Curve on February 4, 1974. Seven units should be more than enough for this ten car train. If you look closely you will see deadhead crews in the second and third units. Disk 51
