Lunch and Santa Fe trains at Sullivans Curve

On May 27, 1978 I joined the Krantz's for a picnic at Sullivan's Curve. While we were trying to get lunch started we were surprised when Extra 5615 West came down the north track through Sullivan's Curve. This track is normally used by eastbound trains.

We then heard over the scanner that a M/W crew was working on the south track. About a half hour later, Extra 3448 West comes through Sullivan's Curve. Notice that SP's Canyon siding has not been extended around the corner yet and that there are no block signals. The siding was extended around the curve when CTC was added in December 1979. Disk 51
