It was rare to see a cupola caboose on a regular SP freight train in the 70s. They were used mostly on locals. However, on May 27, 1978 we caught caboose 1120 on the rear of extra 8477 east at Sullivan's curve in Cajon Pass. Caboose 1120 was built between 1940 and 1942 as class C-40-3 and was among the last of the cupola cabooses built for the SP. See railfan.net for more information.
