During the early 1980's the Norfolk Western Railway took over an old Pennsylvania RR branch line between Fort Wayne and New Castle, IN and another old line from New Castle to Cincinnati. This gave the N&W Railway a through route between Chicago and Cincinnati. These lines were in bad shape and needed work to bring the speed limit up to 40mph. N&W caboose 518619 is on a work train dumping ballast the old Pennsylvania RR branch line near Montpelier, IN on July 2, 1982. |
