BN caboose on Halstead, TX empty coal train headed to the Powder River Basin

BN caboose 12172 brings up the rear on an empty coal train from the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) Halstead, TX power plant. This train had engines 8071, 6309, 7064, 7844, and 5102 on the headend as it rolls north through Lynn, CO on August 22, 1980. Cabooses remained active on this line for several years after most were replaced by end of train devices since this was dark territory and all switches were hand throw. Disk 87
