New Barstow Yard construction in 1975

New Barstow Yard construction in 1975

Steve returned the following year and took these pictures from the hill with the radio towers. That is the old West Tower by the engines. Its amazing that with all the construction going on, the railroad continued to operate trains with minimal delay.

Looking slightly southwest, you can see the new yard. The track in the lower left is the original mainline. The new mainline will be the tracks on the far right side of the picture. In the distance you can see the High Tower and just to the right the hump tower. On the left portion of the new yard are the 48 classification tracks for the hump yard. Moving to the right are the departure and receiving tracks. Between them, further back are the new engine shops.
