Union Pacific westbound train at summit of Cajon Pass

Union Pacific westbound train at summit of Cajon Pass

Steve returned to Summit in January 1978. A UP westbound freight train was already stopped on the north track. A M/W crew was working on the north track between Summit and Cajon. Normally the westbound train would have used the south track but this day was not going to be a normal day.

The UP westbound train had engines UP3237, 3500, 71, and 93B. It is hard to tell from this far away, but the approaching eastbound has actual come up the steep three percent grade on the south track. There are more eastbound trains coming.
