Engine 5021 was one of 49 three cylinder 4-10-2s on the Southern Pacific. This engine was built by Alco in 1925 and pulled both frieght and passenger trains. The SP donated engine 5021 to the Railway and Locomotive Historical Society in October 1956. The engine sat in the Los Angeles County Fairgrounds until 1961. The R&LHS wanted to do a complete overhaul and had the engine moved to San Bernardino in 1961. Hopes dashed due to environmental regulations, the engine was moved back to the fairgrounds in 1975.
