Westbound Southern Pacific train symbol UPSFT with engines 8422 and 8828 rumble out of Tunnel 1 and across the Humbolt River just west of Palisade, NV on June 3, 1978. Palisade is at milepost 526 (eight miles west of Carlin). The truss bridge in the fore ground belongs to the Western Pacific. Between Winnemucca and Wells, the two railroads used the SP line westbound and the WP line eastbound. The elevation here is 4,840 feet. Disk 28
