Santa Fe at the Pecos River Bridge

Extra 5585 West crosses the Pecos River at Fort Sumner, NM on May 16, 1978. If you look just below the trestle you can see the town in the distance. At the time, most of the line from Clovis to Belen was single track. Today this bridge is one of only three short single track portions on the line. The other two are a single track segment in the lower part of Abo Canyon and Carnero to Vaughn, where the Santa Fe crossed over the SP on a long fill west of town.
