Extra 5144 East (Santa Fe train symbol LMN82) has departed Deming, NM and is headed back to Belen on December 19, 1985. This was part of the original Santa Fe main line and became the second transcontinental mainline when it connected with the SP at Deming in March 1881. We are about 1,120 miles from where the Santa Fe started in Atchison, KS. Most of these small trestles use wooden poles for supports, however you can see that this one is built using steel beams.
