Santa Fe train 508 with engine 5039 in the lead crosses the last and longest bridge in Abo Canyon as the train descends from Mountainair to Belen on December 23, 1985. See Sias for a shot of the caboose on this train. We were tempted to walk across the bridge to get to the south side for better light. However, we knew that we would return again someday and try from that side. Westbound trains can be almost silent as they descend the canyon.
