Santa Fe Railway train symbol 973 in Kingman Canyon

Santa Fe Railway train symbol 973 in Kingman Canyon

Train 973 (Extra 5663 East) crosses Holy Moses Wash in Kingman Canyon on July 16, 1979. The dirt road to the right of the lead unit is the original US 66. Until the 1940s, US 66 crossed the tracks west of the Kingman depot, soon ducked under the eastbound main, and then went down the canyon between the tracks. I would have a lot more pictures from this area if a camera store had not lost a roll of film I had them process.

Train symbol 883 is crossing the same bridge over Holy Moses Wash in Kingman Canyon on November 1, 1977. The train has engines 5582, 5661, and 5002. The old US 66 went through Oatman then down to Topock. After 1952, US 66 followed the tracks through Yucca to Topock. Disk 73
