How appropriate that I am at the entrance to a military base and catch military equipment train MBAFH. The army was doing a lot of training at Fort Irwin near Barstow. Extra 8129 East is returning the equipment to Fort Hood in Texas on May 26, 1987.
These military equipment trains generally had two cabooses on the rear. One caboose for the train crew and one caboose for military personnel. You can see that there was an extensive yard here at one time. We are at the north entrance to the Camp Navajo Army Depot. The ammunition storage facility was established in 1942 as the Navajo Ordnance Depot. It was a beehive of activity during WWII. If you look closely at the far right you can see the headend of train 698 approaching. Disk 71
