The small town of Bellemont was named for Belle Smith, daughter of the superintendent F. W. Smith of the Atlantic & Pacific Railroad in 1882. This was the highest community on the old US 66 at 7,130 feet above sea level. Train 975 rumbles through East Bellemont on February 21, 1988. Missed the third unit number, but the rest were 5307, 6386, and 5261. Train 975 is a run through with the KCS at Dallas and handled TOFC and mixed traffic. It was scheduled out of Richmond at 2:00AM and into Winslow at 12:15PM the next day. Disk 70
