Train pictures at the highest point on the Santa Fe Railway in Arizona

Freight train 508 at the highest point on the Santa Fe Railway in Arizona

I noticed that the gate was open from A-1 Mountain Road down to the tracks. So I decided to take the easy way in. I normally try to get on the sunny side of the tracks to take pictures, but in this case I didn't have time. I chose to stay safe and hope for the best. The second section of train symbol 508 (Extra 5431 West) crests the highest point in Arizona for the AT&SF at Riordan on May 24, 1989. Riordan is at milepost 351 at an elevation of 7,313 feet. This is the third highest pass on the Santa Fe.

Train QNYLA at the highest point on the Santa Fe Railway in Arizona

Later train QNYLA rolls west with engines 5179 and 5850. This time I had plenty of time to get across the track safely to the sunny side. Disk 70
