Santa Fe Railway work train dropping new ties at Riordan, Arizona

Santa Fe Railway work train dropping new ties at Riordan, Arizona

Engines 3401 and 2725 are on a work train dropping new cross ties along the south main on May 24, 1989. You will see plenty of these new ties scattered along the south main when we get to the Crookton Cut-off later in this series. The picture above is on disk 70.

Santa Fe Railway westbound train at Riordan, Arizona

Engines 5661, 5012, and another SD40 rumble westward and will soon be throttling back from run 8 as the train crests the top of the hill at Riordan. Steve took this picture during our September 1972 trip. Notice the old octagonal phone booth and information sign for Santa Fe passengers on the other side of the tracks.
