On May 19, 1978 I was able to catch a three train meet from the old US66 highway bridge near Winona. The first train was train 328 (Extra 8513 West) with lots of autos off the N&W connection at Kansas City bound for Pico Rivera, plus some TOFC and manifest traffic for Los Angeles. It is slowing and will stop short of the cross over about a half mile west of the highway bridge. Off in the distance you can see Extra 3440 East pulling to a stop on the other side of the cross over.
The next train by was train 188 (Extra 3804 West) with hot TOFC traffic for Los Angeles. As I was driving at about 65mph on Interstate 40 between Joseph City and Winslow this train passed me doing about 70mph. I knew I couldn't catch him at Winslow, so I drove ahead and set up here at Darling. The train came through Darling with three brand new GP40Xs and an SD40.
After train 188 has cleared the next block, train 328 gets the signal to follow him on up to Flagstaff.
After the two westbound trains clear, Extra 3440 East gets the signal to come down the hill into Darling. This is local 3152 out of Ash Fork with low priority eastbound traffic. Most of these cars are empties. Disk 68
