AT&SF Railway freight train symbol VCWPX at Navajo, AZ AT&SF Railway freight train symbol VCWPX meets empty coal train coming off the Coronado Branch at Navajo, AZ

Just as I was pulling into Navajo on July 19, 1988, train VCWPX came by. At least I got a going away picture and was then rewarded with a meet. Train VCWPX is slowing down because train CNTLE is crossing over in front of it at Coronado Junction. The line to the Coronado power plant was built in 1979 and extended south to the location of the Springerville power plant in 1980. The two units at the Coronado power plant came online in December 1979 and October 1980. The two units at the Springerville power plant came online in 1985 and 1990. The Santa Fe added a short stretch of CTC at Coronado Junction to control the movements of trains on and off the branch.
