Santa Fe Railway bentonite clay loadout at Cheto, Arizona

About eight years later, train 698 sails through Cheto on February 24, 1988. The train has engines 5399, 8136, and 5385. These pictures were taken from the US666 highway bridge. Train 698 was a run through from the BN at Avard, OK and handled TOFC traffic for Richmond and Los Angeles. It was scheduled out of Waynoka at 7:15PM and out of Gallup at 11:20AM the next morning. This train would become symbol QBHLA on December 15, 1989. Cheto is at milepost 200. In the background above the lead locomotive is the Arizona Inspection Station for westbound I40. To the right of the train is the bentonite clay loadout. Disk 67
