Train APLAA (Extra 9313 West) at Wellton on November 30, 1977. That is the branch line to Phoenix pealing off to the left going under the highway bridge. Wellton is at milepost 770 and was originally called Well Town as the SP drilled several wells in the area for its steam engines. In 1926, SP installed a 9 lever desk type US&S interlocking panel at Wellton.

Southern Pacific Railroad train symbol BSMFY at Wellton, AZ

Not long after the auto parts train went by Extra 9336 West (train BSMFY) showed up. The train slowed way down as it passed me. When I got back to the car I heard on my scanner that the train would be there for about twenty minutes to meet an eastbound train. A M/W was working on the north track, so the line was down to just the south track up to Dome. This gave the the chance to get a couple more pictures about a mile west of Wellton at the crossover.
