I'm on a work train in the spur at Vail waiting for Extra 9272 East to go by. Once the train is by we will follow it east.
When my brother and I first visited this location in 1969, we were trying to find the place where the former El Paso Southwestern bridged over the original SP mainline. We followed the maintenance road (just to the left of the derail) from Vail all the way to the Cienega Bridge. Maintenance roads are rarely maintained so there are lots of ruts and bumps. The road was even more challenging as we tried to dodge a bunch of tie plates scattered all over the road. We were surprised to find a highway bridge just 150 feet beyond the railroad bridge. Disk 56
