Late in the afternoon on December 1, 1977 engines 6562, 6600, 6661, 3541, and 6511 bring a block of empty gondolas back to Ray Junction.
The engines have run around the loads and recoupled. The engineer has changed operating ends and now after an air test is ready to head back to Hayden.
The train is about to pass one of two signals on the line. This signal protects a 12 mile long block from here at Ray Junction to the west end of Hayden Yard. Just ahead of the train are two of the three tunnels on this branch line. Number 2 is 140 feet long and number 3 is 125 feet long. Ray Junction is at milepost 988. Disk 57
