Kennecott GP39 locomotive at Ray Junction, Arizona

Kennecott GP39 locomotive number 2 at Ray Junction, Arizona

Steve and I made our first trip to Hayden in June 1970. We returned the following year and Steve got these pictures on December 20, 1971. I made a solo trip to Hayden in December 1977. Kennecott number 2 has shoved the caboose up the ramp before picking up the empties from the SP. After moving the empties passed the ramp, the rear brakeman will line the switch and the conductor will kick off the handbrake and the caboose will roll off the ramp and onto the rear of the string of empties. Just beyond the caboose is Steve's white pickup with the camper shell.
