Union Pacific train NPGR Archer, WY

Just east of Cheyenne is Archer Hill. Train NPGR with engines 3761 and 2463 passes the siding at Archer on May 16, 1992. The Union Pacific symbol NPGR began as the SAS (Soda Ash Special) in the 60s handling empty covered hoppers and carload traffic for Green River. SAS became SAS1 and SAS2 in the mid80s and became NPGRS and NPGRF during the Fall of 1986. The NPGRS handled UP system cars and the NPGRF handled private covered hoppers. The symbols were changed during the Spring of 1990 to NPGR1 and NPGR2 and then combined in early 1991.
