Train ZLACALT sits in the siding at Vernon waiting for higher priority westbound piggyback trains to clear. The train had engines 7762, 4993, 1096, and 135. Although this is one of the high priority piggyback trains headed to Alliance, the dispatcher was in no rush to get the piggyback train into Alliance Yard. Since it was Friday and these piggyback trailers would probably sit at the terminal most of the weekend, this train got stabbed several times.
Engine 135 still looked good in its Santa Fe warbonnet paint. This was the last day of my October 2006 trip and there were still many miles left to cover. I eventually had to give up waiting for this piggyback train. After getting stuck in rush hour traffic in north Fort Worth, I did make it home safely. Thank you Lord for a good trip.
